Day 13 – Eat Your Greens

Daniel 1:12-14 (NIV) [bible-link v=”Daniel+1%3A12-14&version=NIV” c=”light”]
“Please test your servants for ten days: Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink. Then compare our appearance with that of the young men who eat the royal food, and treat your servants in accordance with what you see.” So he agreed to this and tested them for ten days.

Many of you will be familiar with my health journey over the last several years.

I was 30 kilograms overweight, had high blood pressure and high cholesterol. The Holy Spirit spoke very clearly to me after a doctor’s appointment. I knew I needed to make significant changes, starting with a disciplined diet.

In our verses today, we’re looking at three men, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, and their resolve to make tough decisions in times of testing.

Note that they asked for a diet of vegetables and water as opposed to the luxury of royal food.

Their request is a great insight for anyone facing a test. Sometimes we have to change what we’re feeding on, both physical food and ‘soul food’, because it will have an impact on how we walk through the test.

In trials, our convictions will be tested. These three men would not compromise on their convictions, even in times of testing. In fact, the men were so settled in what they believed, they actually asked for this test!

Ask Him today:

  1. What am I feeding my body and soul?
  2. Am I preparing myself wisely for what lies ahead?
  3. Do I need to make some changes and maybe request a few more greens on my plate?
