In the Bible, James talks about two kinds of wisdom that exist: earthly wisdom and heavenly wisdom.
Often, we can operate in our own wisdom, the earthly kind. We can think we’re all over a situation, only to find, we really aren’t and it ends up pretty messy. Only me?
Our own wisdom usually has roots in selfishness, insecurity and self-protection, and things never end well when we employ it.
Heavenly wisdom looks completely different and produces polar-opposite results, in us and through us.
James 1:17 (NKJV) [bible-link v=”James+1%3A17&version=NKJV” c=”light”]
But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full or mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.
What does this actually look like in our lives?
Pure – Our motives are pure in our decision-making and our responses.
Peaceable – We sow peace and keep the peace, instead of causing arguments, divisions and discord.
Gentle and willing to yield – We demonstrate a spirit of meekness where humility is extremely strong, yet gentle.
Full of mercy and good fruits – The fruit being produced in our lives for others to eat is good and sweet.
Without partiality and hypocrisy – We are fair, impartial people without favourites.
Let this kind of wisdom be our guide as we face all the days ahead.
