Genesis 1:26 (NLT) [bible-link v=”genesis+1%3A26&version=NLT” c=”light”]
Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us…”
Often, when we think upon the creation narrative set out in Genesis, we can easily allow ourselves to think God was alone before our planet and the universe were created. However, Genesis 1:26 appears to give us a contrasting view.
Community and relationship existed between God the Father, God the Son (Jesus), and God the Spirit (Holy Spirit), even before the foundations of the earth were laid.
We were all made as individuals by God. There is no other species like us on planet earth and we ought to celebrate and embrace all the uniqueness that spans across humanity.
We must also recognise that, as individuals made in the image of God, like our Creator, we were designed and destined for relationship and community.
At the start of a brand-new year, may I encourage you to make a resolute decision to be connected to your church community, to surround yourself with like-minded people and to invest into healthy, flourishing friendships.
