Day 7 – One

John 17:21 (VOICE) [bible-link v=”John+17%3A21&version=VOICE” c=”light”]

“Father, may they all be one as You are in Me and I am in You; may they be in Us, for by this unity the world will believe that You sent Me.”

I love most sports, and I love to watch a champion team do their thing in their arena. There is something captivating about how each player puts aside their own agendas, plans and desires for the greater good.

In John 17, Jesus is praying to the Father and refers to them as ‘they’ (that’s me and you). He prays that His followers are to be unified as one, and that the world would see, witness and experience ‘the oneness’ within the church community, which would reveal God.

I mentioned in Day Six about how I marvel about the diversity within our church community. When I consider all the differences we share such as cultural, age, gender, personality and likes/dislikes, the list is endless.

But when we gather as His church none of that matters, because it’s the name of Jesus that we gather under and to. There is more that unites us, than divides us, as a community.

In Jesus, we are being perfected as one in one accord, one heart, one mind, and one cause (Philippians 2:2).

Think about how someone might think, when they see all different people in one community, yet they are all united. The church community truly is a miracle.
